Mr. Wayne Walsh served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1986. During his service in the Vietnam War, he was stationed on the U.S.S. Juneau LPD-10. On the ship, he was a Boatswain’s Mate, also known as an E-6. Most of Mr.Walsh’s time in the Vietnam War was spent serving on the Juneau, completing duties such as “swimmer detail.” This task was very dangerous because he and his fellow sailors had to operate boats around the Juneau looking for air bubbles from Vietcong members trying to place bombs underneath the ship. Mr. Walsh was awarded with National Defense Vietnam Service Medal. He was also a Vietnam National Defense Sharpshooter with the M16 and 1911 Pistol. After Vietnam, Mr. Walsh enlisted in the Naval Reserves.
